Our Story

Dominic’s parents came to America from southern Italy as teenagers. They had been working in the restaurant business most of their lives since then. Dominic inherited not only his parent’s recipes, but also their commitment to quality and service.

In 1964 Dominic and Marguerite from a small corner in the back of the local Squan Tavern bar started serving pizza and sandwiches. At that time, Dominic was a meat cutter at a supermarket in Long Branch, NJ during the day and drove down to Manasquan at night to work at Squan Tavern serving the foods that he was raised on.

As Dominic and Marguerite’s food gained a loyal following, we began to expand our small business. In 1969 we expanded the restaurant into what is now the main dining room and built the current kitchen. In 1975 we bought the bar from the owner and Squan Tavern was now their’s.

Since then we have poured our hearts and souls into establishing the Squan Tavern as one of the premiere Italian restaurants in Monmouth County at the Jersey Shore. We have been through many changes over that time, but what has never changed is our commitment to providing our customers with Italian food that would make our ancestors proud.

Dominic’s mother, Yolanda, was a staple in the Squan Tavern kitchen until she was in her late 80s. She taught her grandson, Dominic the third, everything she knew about cooking Italian food. Since then he has embraced his grandmothers traditions while developing his own unique, creative style.

Although Dominic’s Mother passed away at 94 years old, her kindheartedness and passion for life will forever be inherent in everything that we do at Squan Tavern. All five of Dominic’s children worked at the Squan Tavern as they were growing up, and Dominic is honored that his children have committed themselves to keeping the Squan Tavern ongoing for generations to come.

Dominic & Margarite thanks all of his customers for the years of loyal patronage at their Monmouth County restaurant and for the countless friendships that we have developed with so many throughout the years. Dominic and Marguerite believe the most wonderful aspect of owning a family restaurant is that they get to include all of their loyal customers in their extended family. They consider themselves blessed.

Sit back and relax and allow the Squan Tavern family to do what we've been doing since 1964, and what we plan to do for years to come. Squan Tavern - A Landmark Italian Restaurant in Monmouth County NJ.
